Our Story
A global pandemic might seem like a crazy time to start a business. But the concept of farm life had long been at the back of our minds. And as two full-time working nurses and busy parents of two young children, we’re used to facing challenges. So we thought why not purchase 40 scenic acres in picturesque Welshpool, in Victoria’s spectacular South Gippsland region, and turn it into a rewarding business. And that’s what we have done!
We had our work cut out for us when we purchased Indigo Farm. Back then, the rustic property was home to a more than 100-year-old Victorian house with a charming wrap-around verandah. An original dairy shed was perched nearby and there was not much else.
Our vision was simple: to grow and sell healthy, chemical free products on a platform of sustainability and food security – because it’s better for the land and better for our health.
We trucked in tonnes of organic soil and set about planting row upon row of garlic (we started with 5000 bulbs, expanded to 30,000 and now have over 100,000 plants), luscious lavender to extract the most beautiful essential oils, and seasonal cut flowers.
Our herd of happy Angus cattle are part of our Indigo Farm family. So too are the chickens and bees. We proudly call the old Victorian home and we’re renovating the quaint dairy shed as a gift store.
We wake up every day to the incredible headland views of Wilson’s Promontory (it never gets boring). You could say that with our two children, who love digging in the soil and caring for the animals, we’re living our best farm life. And we are. So we decided to share our wonderful farm experience with the public and opened Indigo Farm to self-guided tours. We look forward to meeting you when you visit one day.
